Water orchid is a small native orchid that produces delicate white flower spikes from summer through early fall. This moisture-loving perennial thrives in consistently wet soils and partial shade, making it ideal for bog gardens or pond edges.

In an HOA neighborhood

Water Orchid takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: high. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Requires very wet conditions that may appear swampy
  • Small size and delicate appearance may look weedy
  • Difficult to maintain consistent formal appearance

Wildlife value

The orchid flowers attract small pollinators including native bees and beneficial insects during its extended summer blooming period.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
