EPA Level I Region

Southern Semi-Arid Highlands

Southern Semi-Arid Highlands reaches into the United States only in southeastern Arizona, the sky-island country around Sierra Vista and the Huachuca and Chiricahua mountains. Grassland and oak woodland climb the slopes between desert basins, fed by a strong summer monsoon. Natives such as sacaton, desert willow, and Arizona rosewood match that pattern, and this corner of the state is one of the richest places for pollinators in North America.

Ecoregions inside it: 1. Native range is set at that finer level, so start there rather than here.
