Northern Forests
Northern Forests covers the cold end of the eastern woods: northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, the Adirondacks and northern New England, and the high plateau country around Scranton and the Catskills. Winters are long and snowy, summers are short and mild, and soils tend to be thin and acidic. Natives like wild columbine, bunchberry, and lowbush blueberry handle the cold and the shade that would stall plants brought up from further south.
