Tropical Wet Forests
Tropical Wet Forests is the only tropical region in the continental United States, covering southern Florida from roughly Lake Okeechobee down through the Everglades and the Keys. There is no real winter, rainfall is heavy and concentrated in summer, and soils are often limestone or sand. Natives such as firebush, coontie, and beach sunflower are built for the heat and the storms, and they hold up where non-native ornamentals get knocked back.
