EPA Level I Region
Eastern Temperate Forests
Eastern Temperate Forests covers most of the country east of the Great Plains, from New England and the Great Lakes down through the Appalachians to the Gulf and west into east Texas. It is the broadest of the ten regions and the wettest, with rain spread through the year and deciduous forest as the default cover. Natives like purple coneflower, black-eyed Susan, and oakleaf hydrangea are at home across much of it, though what actually belongs in your yard narrows considerably once you get down to your own ecoregion below.
Ecoregions inside it: 33. Native range is set at that finer level, so start there rather than here.
