Great Plains
The Great Plains run from the Texas Hill Country north through Oklahoma and Kansas to the Dakotas, taking in Dallas, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, Wichita, and Omaha. This is grassland country: deep prairie soils, wind, wide temperature swings, and rainfall that drops steadily as you move west. Prairie natives such as little bluestem, purple coneflower, and blackfoot daisy are built for that, and they read as intentional in a front yard when they are planted in blocks rather than scattered.
