Bladdermallow is a compact native wildflower that produces small, delicate blooms from spring through fall. This drought-tolerant perennial forms neat, low mounds and thrives in sunny locations with minimal water requirements.

In an HOA neighborhood

Bladdermallow takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Wildflower appearance may be considered too informal
  • Small blooms can appear weedy to untrained eye
  • Name and appearance not familiar to most homeowners

Wildlife value

The long blooming season provides nectar for bees and butterflies from April through September. Its extended flowering period makes it valuable for supporting pollinators throughout the growing season.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
