Eyebane is a small annual wildflower that forms low, spreading mats with tiny inconspicuous flowers from summer through fall. This native plant thrives in sunny, dry conditions and requires minimal care once established. It works well as a ground cover in naturalized areas or mixed plantings.

In an HOA neighborhood

Eyebane takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very small flowers appear weedy to most homeowners
  • Low spreading growth habit looks unmanicured
  • Name includes 'weed' which raises HOA concerns

Wildlife value

The small flowers attract native bees and beetles throughout the growing season. Its low-growing habit provides habitat for beneficial ground-dwelling insects.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
