Paint trillium is a delicate spring wildflower with three broad leaves and a distinctive white flower marked with pink veins that deepen with age. This woodland native thrives in shaded areas and goes dormant by midsummer, disappearing completely until the following spring.

In an HOA neighborhood

Paint Trillium takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Completely disappears by summer leaving bare spots
  • Looks very wild and woodland-like
  • May appear sparse or patchy in formal settings

Wildlife value

The flowers attract beetles and flies for pollination during spring blooming season. Seeds are dispersed by ants, helping establish new colonies in suitable woodland habitats.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
