Schreber's aster is a native wildflower that produces clusters of small white to pale lavender daisy-like flowers from summer through early fall. This compact perennial forms neat clumps with heart-shaped leaves and works well in partial shade areas where many other flowering plants struggle.

In an HOA neighborhood

Schreber's Aster takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Has wild aster appearance that most HOAs consider weedy
  • Dies back completely in winter leaving bare ground
  • Small flowers may not register as intentional landscaping

Wildlife value

The flowers attract native bees, butterflies, and beneficial beetles during its long blooming period. Seeds provide food for songbirds in fall and winter.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
