Bearbind is a vigorous native vine that can reach 8-20 feet in length with heart-shaped leaves and white trumpet-shaped flowers. This aggressive climber spreads rapidly through underground rhizomes and can quickly cover fences, trellises, or other structures. It blooms from June through August but can become invasive if not carefully managed.

In an HOA neighborhood

Bearbind takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: high. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Extremely aggressive spreader that can overwhelm other plants
  • Difficult to control once established
  • Can look unkempt without constant maintenance

Wildlife value

The large white flowers attract bees, butterflies, and beetles during summer blooming period. Seeds provide food for birds in fall.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
