Rannoch-rush is a rare native wetland plant that forms small clumps of narrow, grass-like leaves. It produces tiny greenish flowers in summer and requires consistently moist to wet soil conditions to thrive.

In an HOA neighborhood

Rannoch-rush takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: high. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Requires boggy conditions unsuitable for typical yards
  • Uncommon appearance may seem weedy
  • Very specialized growing requirements

Wildlife value

This specialized wetland plant provides habitat for wetland insects and small wildlife, though it has limited general pollinator appeal due to its inconspicuous flowers.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
