Stout goldenrod is a tall native perennial that produces bright yellow flower clusters from summer through fall. It forms upright clumps that can reach 5 feet tall, making it suitable for background plantings and natural areas. This robust wildflower thrives in full sun with average moisture.

In an HOA neighborhood

Stout Goldenrod takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very tall height appears wild and unstructured
  • Can look weedy when dormant
  • Goldenrods often perceived as aggressive spreaders

Wildlife value

This goldenrod is excellent for pollinators, attracting bees, butterflies, and beetles during its long blooming period. It provides late-season nectar when many other flowers have finished, making it valuable for fall-migrating monarchs.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
