Polygonella articulata is a compact native wildflower that forms low, spreading clumps with delicate white to pink flower clusters. This drought-tolerant plant thrives in sandy soils and full sun, making it ideal for dry, challenging sites. The small, jointed stems create a fine-textured appearance throughout the growing season.

In an HOA neighborhood

Coastal Jointweed takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very wild, informal appearance
  • Can look sparse or weedy
  • Dies back completely in winter leaving bare spots

Wildlife value

The summer blooms attract native bees and beneficial beetles. This plant provides nectar during the mid to late summer months when many other native plants have finished flowering.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
