Maiden blue eyed mary is a petite annual wildflower that produces small blue and white flowers from late spring through summer. This low-growing native plant forms compact patches and thrives in partial sun with minimal water once established.

In an HOA neighborhood

Maiden Blue Eyed Mary takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very small stature may appear weedy in formal landscapes
  • Annual nature means gaps and bare spots as plants complete lifecycle
  • Informal wildflower appearance doesn't match typical HOA aesthetic expectations

Wildlife value

The small flowers attract native bees and other small pollinators during its extended bloom period from May through July.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
