Moss phlox is a low-growing evergreen groundcover that forms dense mats of needle-like foliage. In spring, it produces masses of small, colorful flowers that completely blanket the plant for several weeks. This hardy perennial thrives in sunny locations with well-drained soil and requires minimal care once established.

In an HOA neighborhood

Moss Phlox is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

Wildlife value

The abundant spring blooms attract bees and butterflies during an important early season nectar period. The dense mat structure can also provide shelter for small beneficial insects.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
