Boechera laevigata is a native wildflower that forms small clumps of smooth, narrow leaves with delicate white flowers in late spring. This compact perennial works well in partially shaded areas and requires minimal care once established.

In an HOA neighborhood

Smooth Rockcress takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Appears weedy and wild to most homeowners
  • Goes completely dormant in winter leaving bare spots
  • Small white flowers may look like common weeds

Wildlife value

The spring flowers attract native bees and beetles during their May-June bloom period. This plant provides early season nectar when many pollinators are most active.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
