Hitchcock's sedge is a compact native grass-like perennial that forms neat clumps in partially shaded areas. This sedge produces inconspicuous flower spikes from May through July and maintains a tidy, mounded appearance throughout the growing season.

In an HOA neighborhood

Hitchcock's Sedge is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

Wildlife value

Like most sedges, this plant primarily supports native moths and butterflies whose caterpillars feed on sedge foliage. The seeds may provide food for ground-feeding birds and small mammals.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
