Kalm's lobelia is a compact native perennial that produces delicate blue flowers from July through September. This low-growing plant forms small clumps and thrives in partially sunny locations with consistent moisture.

In an HOA neighborhood

Kalm's Lobelia takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: moderate. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very small flowers may appear insignificant
  • Can look sparse or weedy in formal settings
  • Requires consistently moist soil which may create maintenance issues

Wildlife value

The small blue flowers attract native bees and butterflies during the summer blooming period. Its compact size makes it a good pollinator plant for smaller garden spaces.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
