Sessile-flowered cress is a compact annual wildflower that produces small yellow flowers from May through July. This modest native plant grows in low clumps and tolerates partial shade conditions with moderate water needs.

In an HOA neighborhood

Sessile-flowered Yellow Cress takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very small flowers may appear insignificant
  • Annual growth habit creates gaps when plants die
  • Common name includes 'cress' which sounds weedy

Wildlife value

The small yellow flowers attract native bees and beetles during the late spring and summer months. As an annual, it provides seasonal nectar resources for pollinators.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
