Showy orchid is a rare native wildflower that produces delicate pink and white blooms in late spring. This small woodland perennial forms compact clumps with broad leaves and distinctive orchid flowers. It goes dormant by midsummer, disappearing completely until the following spring.

In an HOA neighborhood

Showy Orchid takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Completely disappears by midsummer leaving bare ground
  • Very small and sparse appearance
  • Looks like weeds to untrained eye

Wildlife value

The flowers attract native bees and other small pollinators during its brief blooming period in May and June.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
