Florida blue lettuce is a tall native perennial that produces delicate blue flowers from summer through early fall. This upright wildflower can reach 5 feet in height and thrives in partial sun with moderate water needs.

In an HOA neighborhood

Florida Blue Lettuce takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very tall height appears wild and unmanicured
  • Name includes 'lettuce' which sounds weedy
  • Informal growth habit doesn't fit traditional landscaping

Wildlife value

The blue flowers attract bees and beetles during its long blooming season from June through September. As a native lettuce species, it provides important nectar resources for pollinators during late summer when many other flowers have finished blooming.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
