Bluntleaf sandwort is a low-growing native perennial that forms small mats of delicate foliage. It produces tiny white flowers from May through July and thrives in partially shaded areas with average moisture. This quiet groundcover works well in woodland gardens and naturalized areas.

In an HOA neighborhood

Bluntleaf Sandwort takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very small and inconspicuous appearance may look unintentional
  • Can appear sparse or patchy
  • May be mistaken for weeds due to tiny flowers and low profile

Wildlife value

The small white flowers attract native bees and beetles during the spring and early summer blooming period.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
