Sea arrow-grass is a slender wetland perennial with narrow, grass-like leaves and small greenish flower spikes. This native plant thrives in consistently moist to wet soils and full sun conditions. It blooms from late spring through early fall with inconspicuous but long-lasting flowers.

In an HOA neighborhood

Sea Arrow-grass takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: high. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Requires constantly wet soil conditions
  • Very grass-like appearance may look weedy
  • Inconspicuous flowers lack ornamental appeal

Wildlife value

The extended bloom period from May through September provides nectar for various pollinators including bees, beetles, and flies. Seeds may also provide food for wetland birds in appropriate habitats.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
