Tall coneflower is a robust native perennial that produces bright yellow daisy-like flowers from July through September. This prairie plant can reach up to 6 feet tall and spreads moderately to form attractive clumps over time.

In an HOA neighborhood

Tall Coneflower takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Extremely tall height appears too wild for front yards
  • Can look messy when stems die back in fall
  • May spread beyond intended boundaries

Wildlife value

Host plant for silvery checkerspot butterfly.

The flowers attract bees, butterflies, and beetles throughout the summer blooming period. Seeds provide food for birds in fall and winter.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
