Aromatic Aster is a tall native wildflower that produces masses of small white to pale purple flowers from late summer through fall. This robust perennial spreads to form colonies and provides excellent late-season color when many other plants are finishing their bloom cycle.

In an HOA neighborhood

Tall Aster takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Can appear weedy and unkempt to conventional standards
  • Tends to spread aggressively and may look wild
  • Very tall growth may violate height restrictions

Wildlife value

The abundant flowers are crucial for late-season pollinators including native bees, butterflies, and moths preparing for winter. Seeds provide food for birds through fall and winter months.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
