Canada onion is a native bulb that produces slender, grass-like foliage and delicate white to pink flower clusters in early summer. This low-growing perennial naturalizes easily and can form small colonies over time through underground bulbs.

In an HOA neighborhood

Canada Onion takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Grass-like appearance can look weedy
  • Foliage dies back messily in summer
  • May spread beyond intended areas

Wildlife value

The small flowers attract various pollinators including native bees, beetles, and flies during its June to July bloom period.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
