Teal lovegrass is a delicate annual grass that forms low, spreading mats with fine-textured foliage. It blooms from June through September with airy seed heads that catch the light beautifully. This native grass thrives in full sun with moderate water needs.

In an HOA neighborhood

Creeping Love Grass takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: moderate. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Annual nature means gaps in coverage each year
  • Low spreading habit can appear weedy
  • Fine texture may look unkempt to traditional landscaping expectations

Wildlife value

This grass provides nectar and pollen for bees and beetles during its long blooming period. The seeds also offer food for small birds and ground-dwelling wildlife.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
