A clumping, semi-evergreen perennial rush with round, smooth, upright, leafless green stems forming dense tufted mounds. Small brownish flower clusters appear partway up the stems in summer. Thrives in consistently moist to wet, poorly drained soil in full sun to partial shade, making it well suited to pond edges and rain gardens.
