Georgetown significantly expanded rebate amounts for FY2026. One of the most generous municipal programs in Texas.
Smart Irrigation Controller Rebate
Georgetown Utilities
$150 for weather-based smart controller purchase. $75 for irrigation inspection by TCEQ-licensed irrigator. Free Irrigation Controller Assistance program available.
Rainwater Harvesting Rebate
Georgetown Utilities
$0.50 per gallon rebate on harvesting system materials. Covers gutters, pump, elevation stand. Up to $600 annually. City also runs discounted rain barrel sales periodically.
Texas Property Code §202.007 protects rainwater harvesting from HOA prohibition.
Native Tree Rebate
Georgetown Utilities
Rebate for up to 5 trees (5- or 15-gallon) or 2 trees (30-gallon). Must be native or adaptive species. Qualifying species include live oak, cedar elm, and other Central Texas natives.
WaterWise Landscaping Rebate
Austin Water
Rebates for converting turf grass to native or drought-tolerant landscaping. Requires at least 75% healthy grass before conversion. Online application available.
Austin also offers separate HOA-specific WaterWise rebates for multi-family turf conversion (up to $5,000). Contact Austin Water for HOA program details.
Irrigation System Upgrade Rebate
Austin Water
Rebates for irrigation system upgrades including smart controllers, pressure regulating valves (up to $150), and watering timers (50% off, up to $40 for two). Up to $1,000 total for irrigation efficiency improvements.
Rainwater Harvesting Rebate
Austin Water
$0.50 per gallon for non-pressurized systems, $1.00 per gallon for pressurized systems. Up to 50% of equipment cost. Up to $5,000 per site. Systems over 500 gallons require pre-approval.

WaterSmart Rebates
Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA)
Turf conversion at $0.50/sq ft (min 200 sq ft, up to $2,000). Also covers compost, mulch, aeration, soil testing, irrigation evaluations, and equipment retrofits. 50% of total cost, up to $3,000 per residential property.
LCRA significantly increased turf conversion rebates in 2025 (from $600 to $2,000 max). Covers many Central Texas communities. Check with your water provider to confirm LCRA eligibility.
Native Landscaping Pilot Rebate
City of Kyle
Rebate of $1 per square foot of irrigated turf replaced with native plants, up to 250 sq ft. Flexible options including pollinator gardens, gravel, mulch, or paving.
Pilot program with limited spots. Residents work directly with the city water conservation coordinator for design guidance.
Pflourishing Flora
City of Pflugerville
Landscaping rebate program for native and drought-tolerant plantings. Pflugerville also offers the "Pflip this Yard" program and LCRA WaterSmart rebates.
Pflugerville residents may also qualify for LCRA WaterSmart rebates separately. Check both programs for maximum savings.
Turf Removal Rebate
City of Round Rock
Rebate for converting grass to native plant beds in parkway strip areas. City provides resources including the WilcoScape native plant database for plant selection.
Round Rock also offers free irrigation system check-ups and "smart" watering classes. Residents may also qualify for LCRA WaterSmart rebates.
Rainwater Harvesting Rebate
City of Round Rock
$0.50 per gallon for rain barrels. Up to $600 per water account per year. 25% of gutter costs (up to $200) when connected to collection. 50% of pad, overflow, first flush, and pump costs.

Soil Saver & Irrigation Rebate
SMTX Utilities
Soil Saver rebate for core aeration, compost top-dressing, and mulch. Irrigation system upgrade rebate for converting spray zones to drip. Rainwater harvesting rebate also available.
San Marcos does not currently offer a dedicated turf conversion rebate, but the soil improvement and irrigation rebates support native landscaping projects.
Rain Barrel Rebate
City of Buda
$50 rebate for 50–99 gallon rain barrels. $75 rebate for 100+ gallon rain barrels. One rebate per household.
Rain barrel program only — no turf conversion rebate currently. Buda residents may also qualify for LCRA WaterSmart rebates if served by an LCRA customer utility.

San Antonio Water System (SAWS)
Each $125 coupon covers 200 sq ft of grass removal and 15 new native or adapted plants. Up to 4 coupons per year. Free "Plant by Numbers" landscape design plans available at GardenStyleSA.com.
One of the most structured programs in Texas. Free landscape design plans available. Coupons open March 1 each year — apply early as they can be limited. 1-gallon ornamental trees now eligible.
RainSaver Cistern Rebate
San Antonio Water System (SAWS)
$1.00 per gallon of storage, up to $2,000. Minimum 500 gallons required. Must attend free SAWS Cistern Workshop or online course. Landscaping must survive on natural rainfall and harvested water only.

Grass Removal & Drought-Tolerant Tree Rebate
New Braunfels Utilities
Grass removal rebate up to $2,000. Drought-tolerant tree rebate up to $500. Also offers healthy soil rebates for mulch, compost, and aeration.
One of the more generous programs outside major metro areas. Also includes a Comal County Gardening Guide rebate (up to $40).

Save Tarrant Water
Rebate for removing at least 125 sq ft of turf and planting a Texas Tough Native Go N Grow Garden kit (purchased through Rooted In at designated pickup locations).
Gardens sell out quickly — apply early. Pickup locations include Arlington, Fort Worth, Mansfield, and Southlake.
WaterWise Xeriscape Rebate
City of Corinth
Rebate for xeriscape and native plant conversion plus micro-irrigation systems.
Smaller program. Contact the City of Corinth water department for current rebate amounts and application details.
Turf Buy-Back Program
City of Denton Water Utilities
Cash rebate for converting irrigated turf to native or adapted plants. $5.00/sq ft for the first 2,500 sq ft, $3.50/sq ft for additional area up to 10,000 sq ft total. Minimum 400 sq ft required. Spray irrigation in the area must be removed or converted to drip.
One of the most generous turf buy-back programs in Texas. Funds are budget-limited — apply early in the fiscal year. Max theoretical payout for a 10,000 sq ft conversion is ~$38,250, though typical residential projects yield $2,000–$12,500.
Native Tree Rebate
City of Denton / Keep Denton Beautiful
Utility bill credit for purchasing native or adapted trees. Up to 5 trees per property per year. Credit applied to utility account (or check issued for non-utility-account owners).
Seasonal program — runs fall through spring. Pair with the Turf Buy-Back program for a full front-yard conversion.
H2Ome Improvement Smart Irrigation Rebate
City of Allen
Rebate for smart irrigation controllers (Rachio, Orbit B-Hyve, Netro Sprite, Rain Machine, Weathermatic, Hunter Pro-HC), rain and freeze sensors, rain barrels, and other water-efficiency equipment. 50% of purchase cost, up to $125 per smart controller.
Funds currently available as of February 2026. No dedicated turf conversion rebate in this program — covers irrigation equipment only. Allen residents doing a full yard conversion should budget the irrigation upgrade separately and claim this rebate for the controller.
Water Conservation Rebates
City of Plano
Rain/freeze sensor: $50 per household, plus $25 if installed by licensed irrigator. High-efficiency toilets: $100 (1st), $75 (2nd), $50 (3rd) for homes built 1994 or earlier. No turf conversion rebate.
No turf conversion rebate. Irrigation and toilet rebates support water conservation.
WaterSmart ET Controller & Sensor Rebates
City of McKinney
ET controller rebate for systems installed before Sep 1, 2007. Rain/freeze sensor rebates. $25 one-time ET controller registration. No turf conversion rebate.

Resident Water Conservation Rebate
North Fort Bend Water Authority
Water bill credits for qualifying purchases including native and adaptive plants, smart irrigation, rain barrels, high-efficiency fixtures, and more. NFBWA serves Fort Bend County through participating retail water providers. Check eligibility by address.
Not all Fort Bend water providers participate. Sugar Land, Katy, Richmond-Rosenberg area, Fulshear, and Simonton are in NFBWA territory. Native and adaptive plants are explicitly eligible.
West Texas

Water Conservation Rebates
El Paso Water
Smart irrigation controller rebate, rainwater harvesting rebate, pool cover rebate, and laundry-to-landscape rebate. No dedicated turf conversion rebate currently offered.
El Paso focuses on irrigation efficiency and water harvesting rather than landscaping conversion. The laundry-to-landscape program is unique to this region.
Major Cities Without Dedicated Landscape Rebates
Some of Texas's largest cities don't currently offer turf conversion or native landscaping rebates, though they do provide related conservation resources:
- Dallas: Free irrigation evaluations and water-wise landscaping guidance, but no turf conversion rebate currently.
- Houston: Rain barrel program and conservation tips. No dedicated native landscaping rebate found.
- Plano / Frisco / McKinney: Check with North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) for updates. Educational programs available.
